Jazz Cafe Review
06 February 2012 | 15:35
Expansive, swooning tour de force from unstoppable Sheffield stalwart.
It's the third night of the MOJO Honours List and London's Jazz Café is ready for a display of sumptuous song from two of Britain's premier melodists. As vintage custs of R&B and rockability fill the room, a quietly confident, dishevelled Neville Skelly takes the stage. Since his 2008 live London debut at a MOJO club night, Skelly's line in loungey, honey-smoked ballads has slowly found an audience (his Child Of The Morning EP is due in July).

MOJO Review
06 February 2012 | 15:35
Magical melodies from The Coral and Neville Skelly mesmerise the MOJO Club. By Ross Bennett
Returning to the MOJO Club's spiritual home the wondrous Wilton's Music Hall always makes for a special evening of live music and tonight's bill does nothing to buck the trend. First up is cousin of The Coral and fellow Merseyside melodist Neville Skelly, a singer-songwriter who's just getting better and better. MOJO last heard his soothing croon at the Jazz Café earlier this ear but the one-time cruise ship Sinatra-impersonator seems to have tapped into a new confidence that makes his Dionesque ballads shine. Backed by an acoustic guitar and upright bass, he faces a asmall but instantly engaged crowd who are left spellbound by such pastoral hymns as Child of The Morning and Will She Hold Another.
